Constans II
September 641 through July 15 668

The grandson of Heraclius proved to be a mediocre ruler.  During his reign the Arabs continued their advance on Egypt which was permanently lost.  There were revolts in North Africa, Italy and in the Slavic regions, which were meet with some success on Constans II's part.  In 654 he made his son Constantine IV co-emperor and towards the end of his reign left Constantinople to "tour" the western provinces.  He was assassinated in 668 in Syracuse and succeeded by his son.
