May 1998 Coin of the Month

A unique consular solidus of Justin I (518 - 527).  An interesting point is that the right Angel on the reverse representing the Eastern part of the empire has the "upper hand" on the cross over the the Angel on the left.  This solidus was most likely produced in 519 as a commemoration of the reunification of the Eastern and Western Church on Easter Sunday, March 28, 519.
